The civil construction works at the TenarisBayCity plant in Matagorda County, Texas, began in mid-2013.
The project concerns the construction of a seamless pipe mill which will manufacture tubular products with a 114.3 – 244.5 mm. diameter (4 ½” to 9 5/8”) and a thickness of 5.7 to 25.4 mm. The mill is forecast to reach an estimated annual output of 616,000 for Tenaris’s OCTG product line. Techint E&C Mexico was awarded the contract to take part in the Construction Management process under the CM mode and will provide support for the sectors of HSE, Quality and Construction.
The main activities scheduled include the contractual administration of the building contractors, the general supervision of progress and the coordination of operational tasks in the different areas in the plant. This is a highly significant initiative for Techint E&C as well as the whole of the Techint Group as it represents the opportunity to enter the North American market. This experience will enable the companies to develop a deeper understanding of this niche and explore future possibilities.
The first column was successfully completed by the end of April, ushering in the start of the assembly phase for the main manufacturing building. Other tasks such as dirt moving, pilotage and laying the foundations are progressing according to schedule.
